Burgess, 63, was appointed to be the Democratic candidate for the Ward 4 Council seat.
A Lorain High School graduate, Burgess worked for years in banking, specializing in commercial auto financing and real estate financing, and retired from KeyBank. He continues to work part time for Pat O’Brien Chevrolet in Westlake. He and his wife, Sandra, have two grown daughters.
Burgess said he would work with the city to improve the flood problems the city has in the 4th Ward.
“This problem has been going on for years and it’s time to help the residents of the 4th Ward eliminate flooding,” he said. Options could include new retention basins to slow down the water flow into sewers, Burgess said.
He added he hopes to work with local banks and city staff to educate existing businesses about available programs to help them grow.
“Finding out their needs and concerns and finding answers for them would help to increase business and job growth in our community,” Burgess said.
As a member of the Lorain Lions Club, Burgess said he worked to create the Lion’s Vision Center to Lorain County Health and Dentistry. He pledged to be a good listener to residents of Ward 4 and the city.
“This project was a passion for me,” he said. “I work hard and am committed from start to finish when I believe in something. I believe the people of the 4th Ward need a person like me, one that will be compassionate and committed to their needs and problems.”
