Daniel A. Carlson for Mayfield School Board

One of the main goals Carlson would like to achieve if re-elected is to improve the education every student receives in the district through a continuation of professional development for staff, increased state assessment preparation for students and more opportunities for students to learn career-based skills.
“I’d like to continue Mayfield’s practice of addressing the whole student,” he said. “With the PATHS program (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies), Mayfield is already helping students develop emotional intelligence and the skills to resolve conflicts.”
He would like to continue the Mayfield Teacher Evaluation System (MTES), which “will play a major role in improving the quality of instruction for all students.”
The four-year board member said he is prepared for changes from the state regarding schools and the issues that may come with the changes.
“As a teacher, I have a unique insight into the challenges of education in the 21st century,” he said. “My teaching experience adds an important voice to the board’s conversation.”
